Schools, universities and other educational institutions will continue to be closed to students, the Center said on Saturday as it issued guidelines for the fourth phase of a month of easing of COVID-19 restrictions, “Unlock4,” beginning Sept. 1.
The Interior Ministry, when issuing the guidelines, announced the opening of more activities, such as the resumption of Metro train services and open-air theaters. The reopening of activities will only be allowed in areas outside the Containment Zones, the ministry said.
The Center has allowed states and Union territories to allow up to 50 percent of their teaching and non-teaching staff to be called into schools for online teaching and related work. States can also allow students in classes nine through 12 to visit their schools, only in areas outside of the containment zones, the government order said.
The Center, however, has allowed the reopening of higher education institutions only for researchers and graduate students of technical and professional programs that require laboratory or experimental work.
The Unlock3 guidelines issued on July 29 allowed the opening of yoga institutes and gyms and removed restrictions on the movement of people during the night curfew.
In his latest order, states were asked not to impose any local blockades outside the Containment Zones.
