Some states, including Haryana, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Assam, etc., have given permission to reopen schools. However, Delhi, Maharashtra and Karnataka have yet to release any dates. The Tamil Nadu government is expected to decide on the reopening of the schools today when the CM meets with the collectors to discuss the status in the various districts. However, the Delhi Government, in the latest statement, had shared that there were still no plans to reopen schools. Delhi also continues to report an increase in the daily number of reported cases, even as the total number of cases in the country shows a downward trend.

West Bengal had announced in early September its decision to reopen schools only after Durga Puja. No new announcement has yet been made to date.

As for Odisha, the last update shared by the state was to keep schools closed until October 31. No new dates have yet been announced, either for the extension or reopening of the schools. In another development, Mizoram closed schools again after reopening after an increase in cases was reported. The decision to reopen the schools would be made in November, if the increase is controlled.

Andhra Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Uttarakhand have given permission to reopen schools from November 2 for students in classes 10 to 12. In addition, those in Navodaya Vidyalayas and Kendriya Vidyalaya will also reopen from November 2, 2020 throughout the country.
