Schools in Andhra Pradesh are set to reopen from November 2 for classes 1 to 12, Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy announced in a video conference on Tuesday. The state government has decided that schools will run for half a day during November and then students will be sent home after noon meals.

Schools will hold classes on alternate days for students. Grades with old numbers will take place on one day, while even grade students will take place the other day. According to the statement issued by Andhra Pradesh CMO, it said: “Classes 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 will have classes the day and 2, 4, 6, 8 will have classes the next day. Schools will run for half a day in November and students will be sent home after midday meals. “

Schools with more than 750 students may open once every three days and noon meals will be provided for attendees. However, the CM said that online classes will be held for students who do not want to attend physical classes.

Together with the health department, the School Education Department is also preparing an action plan for conducting classes. Guidelines issued by the state government say that hand sanitizing and physical distancing will be mandatory in schools. Students will be divided into small sections to avoid congestion in classrooms.

This is the first state in which parents and teachers have expressed their joy at the state government’s decision to reopen schools.

In the meantime, Kendriya Vidyalayas and Navodaya Vidyalayas plan to reopen schools from November 2, 2020. The schools would initially reopen for students in classes 9 to 12. With the go-ahead received from the central government, the Ministry of Health and the Ministry of Education, the central schools have started to collect feedback from stakeholders.
