SC expresses disgust that shirtless man is visible on screen during hearing: The Tribune India

New Delhi, December 1

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court expressed its displeasure when a shirtless man was seen on the video conference link during the hearing on a matter.

“Even after seven or eight months of video conference hearings, these things are happening,” said a bench made up of Judges L Nageswara Rao and Hemant Gupta.

“This is not done,” observed the bench, after the shirtless man was visible on the screen during the hearing.

This is not the first time that such an unfavorable incident has occurred in the Superior Court during hearings that are conducted via videoconference.

The high court, which has restricted its operation amid the COVID-19 pandemic, is listening to matters via video conferencing.

On October 26, a similar incident occurred before a bench headed by Judge DY Chandrachud when a defender was seen on screen while shirtless.

“I don’t like being hard on anyone but you are on screen. You have to be careful, ”Judge Chandrachud had observed.

In June, a lawyer had appeared in a virtual hearing in the supreme court while he was lying in bed and wearing a T-shirt, causing the displeasure of the judge, who observed that a given “minimum court etiquette” must be followed. the public nature of the hearings.

The high court had observed that lawyers who appear in cases via videoconference must be “presentable” and avoid displaying inappropriate images.

In April this year, a similar incident came to light when a lawyer appeared at a bail hearing conducted via video conference in a vest, drawing the ire of the Rajasthan High Court.

The higher court had criticized the lawyer for not appearing in the proper uniform during the hearing. PTI
