Sasikanth Senthil, former IAS officer, who resigned in 2019, to join Congress in TN

“The time has come to unite everyone and push for a political solution,” Sasikanth told TNM.

Former IAS officer S Sasikanth Senthil, who resigned from the civil service in 2019 in protest of government policies, has now confirmed that he will launch into politics and join the Tamil Nadu Congress. Confirming the news to TNM, Sasikanth says: “I resigned in protest at everything that has been happening in the country and the way the central government is taking us.” He adds: “Now I feel like the time is right to push for a political solution and unite everyone. I feel that Congress is the platform for me where I can operate and try to obtain a political solution. That is the reason why I made this decision. “

Sasikanth, a 2009 Karnataka group IAS official and Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner at the time of his resignation in September last year, Sasikanth says congressional leaders are happy to have him in the party and that he would be part of its organizational structure. “I will not be a typical MLA, MP. I will work for the elections and spread the values of Congress. I see that my important duty is to unite everyone, as a society or as individuals, towards a political solution. I think that in 2024 we will surely create a gap ”, he shares.

At the time of resigning, Sasikanth had said that a “framework of fascism” was developing in the country and that “there was no room for rational debate.” During his years in the civil service, Sasikanth earned a reputation for being a no-nonsense bureaucrat and was admired by his peers for his impartiality in administration. However, even after serving for about 10 years, Sasikanth felt that the state of public affairs in the country was “really worrying” and that he had to resign to make a change.

At the time, Sasikanth had said that there was no indication that he joined politics as he belonged to the academic group. “The pattern is very clear to me and I will be working outside the bureaucracy to inform the general public about this clearly. But, it is not about joining politics since I belong to the academic field ”, he had said.
