The senior prison official who did not want to be identified because he is not authorized to speak about “politically sensitive cases” said that the request for referral and early release was forwarded to higher authorities.
“There is no binding time on when the referral request should be considered,” he said.
Prison authorities are supposed to take into account the special benefit allegations Sasikala was apparently receiving, then-Deputy Inspector General of Police (Prisons) Roopa Moudgil alleged in 2017, sparking a furor.
