New Delhi: India conducted a test firing of the Stand-off Anti-Tank (SANT) missile off the coast of Odisha on Monday. The test was successful.
The Defense Research and Development Organization is developing the missile for the Indian Air Force and it will have both Lock-on After Launch and Lock-on Before Launch capabilities, the sources said.
The test was conducted one day after a successful test of the naval version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was conducted. The missile was test fired from a locally developed stealth destroyer, INS Chennai of the Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea on Sunday.
The missile hit the target with pinpoint precision and also performed “extremely complex” maneuvers before eliminating the target, authorities said.
“BrahMos as a ‘primary strike weapon’ will ensure the invincibility of the warship when attacking naval surface targets at great distances, thus turning the destroyer into another lethal platform for the Indian Navy,” the Defense Ministry said in a statement. .
The missile has been developed by BrahMos Aerospace, which is a joint venture between India and Russia. The joint venture has developed / is developing the supersonic cruise missile that can be launched from submarines, ships, aircraft, or from land platforms.
In recent weeks, India has tested several missiles, including a new version of the BrahMos supersonic surface-to-surface cruise missile and the Rudram-1 anti-radiation missile. The laser-guided anti-tank guided missile and the nuclear-capable hypersonic missile ‘Shaurya’ were also tested.
All of these tests have come at a time when India has been embroiled in a bitter border dispute with China in eastern Ladakh.
