There have been very few players who can boast of being so excellent in the outfield despite being primarily a goalkeeper and Sanju Samson is one of them. Against KKR, Samson took a solid leap like a goalie in the outfield to fire Pat Cummins, taking everyone’s breath away.
The call for Sanju Samson to be on the Indian team grows stronger by the day and the way he is joining the cult is no less brilliant either. After two absolutely wonderful days with the bat, Samson wasn’t too far from the action in Dubai either, and during KKR’s win, he made his presence felt with a blind sack to fire Pat Cummins, taking off like an airline.
In the last installment of the 18th, Tom Curran threw a slower short ball to Cummins and the Australian had premeditated the shot. He attempted a shot shot but missed with his square leg back where Sanju Samson was intended. Despite the low lights causing trouble for fielders in the depths, Samson did not give up.
Instead, he flipped quite quickly after misjudging in the first place and jumped just enough to catch the ball. While it was a visual delight, his position was so awkward that he had to land head-on diagonally backward, prompting threats that he might have hurt himself. Jaydev Unadkat ran up to him to check if he was okay and it turned out that he was smiling at the way he managed to catch that trap. Another marvel to add to Samson’s roster of athleticism and exquisite fielding from one of India’s talented cricketers.
