The Samsung Galaxy S21 can follow in the footsteps of the Apple iPhone 12 series and come without a charger and headphones included, according to a report. The new move by the South Korean company would not only help reduce environmental impact, but would also provide a way to increase its revenue margins, as it is said that it has no plans to revise the prices of Galaxy S21 models, even in case that your charger and earphones are absent from the retail box.
Citing South Korean media, SamMobile reports that Samsung is considering getting rid of both the charger in the box and the earbuds included in the Galaxy S21’s retail box. The change could not only be limited to the normal model of the Galaxy S21 and could also be part of the Galaxy S21 + and the Galaxy S21 Ultra.
The report also mentions that there is speculation that Samsung could at least remove the included headphones from the Galaxy S21 and ship the next-gen flagship phone with just a charger.
Samsung has yet to make any official announcements regarding the Galaxy S21 and whether it would go the Apple route and ditch the box contents of its new phones next year. However, Samsung’s social media team made an interesting decision at Apple for their decision to forego the included charger and EarPods specifically for the iPhone 12 series.
The iPhone maker initially hinted at its decision to exclude the included accessories when launching the Apple Watch Series 6 and Apple Watch SE last month without the AC adapters.
In July, it was reported that Samsung was planning to exclude the wall charger from the retail packaging of its smartphones starting next year. That report cited the rising costs of smartphones, thanks to 5G support and superior hardware, as the main reason for the new move.
Samsung is said to produce the Galaxy S21 series in markets such as Brazil, Indonesia, Korea, and Vietnam. The new flagship models are likely to go into production later this year, while their launch may take place in early January. Some initial versions showing the Galaxy S21 series design also started to appear on the web.
