You may have wondered why Samsung created the Galaxy S20 FE (Fan Edition) and what the company’s thought process was when deciding to build this device. Samsung gave us an answer today, along with more details about the phone’s development process, in a video titled What prompted Samsung to launch the Galaxy S20 FE. Spoiler alert: it has nothing to do with some of your rivals who have focused on the concept of killers insignia for years, or at least Samsung hasn’t recognized it, even though the Galaxy S20 FE is surely a threat to OnePlus.
According to Yoonie Park, director of global brand marketing at Samsung Electronics, the Galaxy S20 FE was created to offer customers a new flagship model of the Galaxy S20 for today’s economic climate. The company wanted to create a cheaper flagship for customers who might be less inclined to spend $ 1,000 on a smartphone in the COVID era, and this is how the Galaxy S20 FE came about.
The Galaxy S20 FE was created based on customer feedback
The Galaxy S20 FE isn’t the best smartphone out there, but it does try to strike a good balance between price and spec. Samsung had to make some compromises to achieve the lowest price, such as skimping on accessories, but at the same time the company had to decide what features should be included in the Galaxy S20 FE for it to be successful.
To this end, the company conducted a survey of consumers in Australia, Germany, South Korea, the UK and the US, asking customers what makes them excited to buy the Galaxy S20. The answers were: camera, performance and screen.
As a reminder, the Galaxy S20 FE has a triple camera setup that includes a 12 MP wide sensor, a 12 MP ultra wide sensor and an 8 MP telephoto sensor, as well as a 32 MP selfie camera. It is powered by the Exynos 990 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 chipset, and features a 6.5-inch Super AMOLED display with a 2400 x 1080 resolution and a 120Hz refresh rate. The high refresh rate is something that even the standard Galaxy Note 20 doesn’t have.
The company also conducted a different survey to determine which color options were the most popular. The winner was Cloud Navy with 43%, followed by Cloud Lavender (41%) and Cloud Mint (39%). Check out the video below if you want to see the full story behind the Galaxy S20 FE.
