Sam Curran, England’s all-rounder, has been ruled out of the fourth and final test against India in Ahmedabad due to the logistical challenges of traveling alone amid the Covid-19 pandemic.
The ECB made the decision based on the fact that traveling from England to Ahmedabad involves more than one commercial flight, which in turn would increase Curran’s chance of exposure to the pandemic.
Incidentally, Curran rested after completing the two-game test series against Sri Lanka as part of England’s rotation policy. He was scheduled to travel to India in time to be available for the final test that would begin on March 4.
The SUV will now travel “via charter flight that brings other members of the over-limited team to India on February 26.” The five-game T20I series between India and England will begin on March 12 in Ahmedabad.
In a statement, the ECB said: “Originally it was planned that the Surrey all-rounder would fly to Ahmedabad in time to be available for the fourth test from 4 March.
“However, amid the ongoing pandemic, making safe arrangements for such a trip proved to be too great a logistical challenge,” the ECB added.
