An Indian army colonel allegedly raped a Russian-born woman at her official residence in the Kanpur Cantonment area on Saturday night, police said Sunday.

A first information report (FIR) has been registered against Gahlot under section 376 of the Indian Penal Code, following a complaint filed by the victim’s husband. According to the FIR, the army officer had invited the victim and her husband to dinner at their home. Police said Gahlot allegedly added intoxicants to the man’s drink, rendering him unconscious. Then the officer raped the victim, they added.
Police said the victim had undergone a medical examination and a report was expected Monday. Relatives of the victim alleged that the police delayed conducting the test in an attempt to save the accused. However, the police denied the accusation, adding that police teams were attempting to arrest Gahlot.
