Rumors of a second escape hit post-midnight panic in Visakhapatnam

On a day when 11 people died and more than 350 were admitted to various city hospitals, panic hit Visakhapatnam after midnight, when social media was flooded with police messages that he was reportedly asked by Residents within 5 km of the LG Polymers chemical plant evacuate due to another gas leak.

People from areas such as Marripalem, Madhavadhara, NAD Kotha Road and even Murali Nagar were seen running out of their homes in cars, two-wheelers and on foot.

This commotion occurred despite top officials such as GVMC Commissioner G. Srijana, DCP Uday Bhaskar, and MLC PVN Madhav responding to calls after 1 a.m., urging people to stay home.

The incident occurred when authorities evacuated people within a 1 km radius as a precaution, as there was still a quantity of styrene vapor in the area.

However, on social media, rumors arose that the factory would explode and that there was another leak.

This led people 4-5 km from the plant to move out of their homes, causing traffic snarls on the National Highway at 1 a.m.

In a message to The Hindu Srijana said that some steam came out a few hours ago, but that everything was stable at the plant and that there was no reason to panic.

DCP Uday Bhaskar, who was present on the ground, also confirmed that everything was normal and that there was no reason to panic.

As a measure, police vehicles began making announcements starting at 2:30 a.m., advising residents not to panic.
