Criticizing West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for the recent attack on the convoy by BJP chief JP Nadda, Interior Minister Shah said on Sunday that the center has the right to summon officers from state police responsible for providing security for the central delegation, and asked the Trinamool Congress (TMC) to review the rules before pointing the finger at the union government.
He also said that the rules for the Citizenship (Amendment) Act have yet to be framed due to the pandemic and the matter will be considered once the Covid-19 vaccination begins.
Addressing a press conference in Bolpur, Shah said that Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress criticized the issue of “outsiders-insiders” to divert public attention from the failures of the state government and said a “son of the earth” would lead the state if the BJP wins power.
“The CAA rules have not yet been framed as such a massive process could not be carried out due to the coronavirus. As soon as vaccination (Covid-19) starts and the cycle of coronavirus infection is broken, we will consider it, ”Shah said.
On the summons of the officers of the Indian Police Service of the West Bengal cadre by the Interior Ministry, Shah said that the center sent the letter to the state government in accordance with the Constitution and the law.
“It is in accordance with the federal structure (of the country). They (the TMC government) should first review the rules and then talk to the center and the public, ”Shah said.
The center had sent a new letter to the West Bengal government on Thursday to immediately relieve its three IPS officers to the central deputation, after which the Chief Minister called the measure “unconstitutional and unacceptable”.
On the attack on Nadda’s convoy during his visit to Diamond Harbor on December 10, Shah alleges that political violence and corruption are at its peak in the state.
“The BJP condemns it and I condemn it too. The BJP believes that in a democracy, everyone should have the right to express their opinions. And it is the responsibility of the ruling party to ensure that all parties can make their voices heard, ”Shah said.
“The attack on the BJP chief is not just an attack on him. It is an attack on democracy in West Bengal and the Trinamool Congress is fully responsible for this, ”said Shah.
