Match 12 of the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) has two former IPL champions, Rajasthan Royals and Kolkata Knight Riders, closing the horns at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Wednesday.
Despite their two 2020 IPL games being held at the high-scoring Sharjah Cricket Stadium, the Rajasthan Royals have weathered the storm to claim four points so far.
Riding on the pyrotechnics of Sanju Samson and Steve Smith, the Royals have exceeded expectations with the bat, and they didn’t need Jos Buttler to shoot in either victory. They will be concerned about their bowling unit, although the field in Dubai is not as cruel to players as it is in Sharjah.
Royals bowlers, however, aren’t going to have a break when they meet players like Eoin Morgan and Andre Russell. The Kolkata Knight Riders come into this match after a comfortable seven-field victory against SRH.
While Sunil Narine’s bat and ball form is of concern, KKR’s total effort in the previous game should keep them in good stead. His bowling attack, led by Pat Cummins, seems solid despite a lack of experience.
It’s even Steven on the head-to-head record, with both teams having won ten games apiece in the IPL so far. The depth of KKR in both departments makes them favorites for this game, with Dinesh Karthik eager to get this tournament started.
The Royals can’t be ruled out though, especially with the kind of form the duo of Sanju Samson and Steve Smith are in right now. With both sides looking to climb in terms of the point table, we should be in for another thriller in what has been a thoroughly entertaining IPL thus far.
