An FIR was filed in Madhya Pradesh on Monday against two executives from the OTT Netflix platform for allegedly hurting religious sentiments through their web series “A Suitable Boy”, which featured kissing scenes allegedly on a temple campus, said a official.
The FIR appointed Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content (Netflix) and Ambika Khurana, Director of Public Policy (Netflix), Madhya Pradesh Interior Minister Narottam Mishra said.
They are registered by the Rewa police for a complaint filed by Bharatiya National Secretary Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM), Gaurav Tiwari, who demanded an apology from Netflix and the series creators, and the removal of “objectionable scenes”, which according to him, they also “encouraged loving jihad.”
“He had asked officials to examine the Netflix series ‘A Right Boy’ to see if the kissing scenes in it were filmed in a temple and if it hurt religious feelings. The prima facie examination found that these scenes are hurting the feelings of a particular religion, ”Mishra said in a video statement.
“On the basis of a complaint filed by Gaurav Tiwari, an FIR under section 295 (A) (malicious acts to outrage and insult religious feelings and beliefs) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) is being registered in Rewa against officials from Netflix- Monika Shergill and Ambika Khurana, ”he added.

Rewa Police Superintendent Rakesh Kumar Singh told reporters that the FIR has been searched and that more investigations are underway.
On Saturday, Gaurav Tiwari had submitted a memorandum to the Rewa Police Superintendent demanding an apology from Netflix and the series’ creators, and the removal of “objectionable scenes” from “A Right Boy.”
“The kissing scenes (filmed) inside a temple of Lord Maheshwar (a historical city located on the banks of the Narmada in Madhya Pradesh) have hurt the feelings of Hindus. This is also encouraging of ‘love jihad,’ “Tiwari had declared.
He had named Monika Shergill and Ambika Khurana in his complaint request.
The six-part Netflix series has been directed by renowned filmmaker Mira Nair, who is known for her critically acclaimed films such as “Salaam Bombay,” “Monsoon Wedding,” and “The Namesake.”
