Hours after BCCI President Sourav Ganguly said India starter Rohit Sharma is ‘injured right now’, the Mumbai Indians captain stepped out at Sharjah Stadium for the team’s final game before the playoffs against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Tuesday. (SRH vs MI Live Score, live updates)

Defending the selectors’ decision to leave Rohit out of the India team against Australia this month, Ganguly said in an interview with PTI, “Rohit is injured right now. Otherwise, why leave out a player like him? He is the vice-captain of the national team (limited). We will have to evaluate it. I don’t know (when can he come back). He has not played until now since he was injured. We want him to recover. BCCI’s job is to get its best players into the park. If he recovers, play ”.

Rohit missed the last four Mumbai games after sustaining a left hamstring injury while finishing a race at the end of the first of two Super Overs. He had not been named in any of the three Indian teams that were announced last week for the Australian tour.

On Tuesday, Rohit was back in shape with the toppers, while pacemakers Jasprit Bumrah and Trent Boult rested before the play-offs.

Sunrisers Hyderabad won the draw and opted for the field. David Warner’s side made a change, bringing in Priyam Garg in place of Abhishek Sharma.

Mumbai Indians: Rohit Sharma (c), Quinton de Kock (week), Suryakumar Yadav, Saurabh Tiwary, Ishan Kishan, Krunal Pandya, Kieron Pollard, Nathan Coulter-Nile, Rahul Chahar, James Pattinson, Dhawal Kulkarni.
