Riyan Parag, Rahul Tewatia dance the Bihu after Rajasthan Royals defeated SunRisers Hyderabad. Watch



Riyan Parag, an 18-year-old cricketer from Assam, closed the Rajasthan Royals (RR) win against SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) on a note of celebration, with a landslide six and a wonderful spin from Bihu. RR defeated SRH by five wickets in an exciting encounter, in their 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL) match at Sharjah Cricket Stadium in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). SRH had set a target of 159 races, which RR had to pursue. Things didn’t start well for RR, which lost crucial ground. Parag and Rahul Tewatia built a crucial 85-run undefeated partnership from the 12th onwards. After the match, Parag gave a crash course to Tewatia, teaching her a basic movement of traditional Assamese dance. Here is the video:

In the video, Parag explained that he was motivated to do the dance due to the net pitchers who were also present at the stadium. He revealed that some of them were from Assam and they were cheering him on. “They were there. So for them, I did it in the heat of the moment,” he joked.

The young man had also performed the dance during the last season.

Parag scored an undefeated 42 runs in 26 deliveries. It was also full of two fours and two sixes.

Tewatia completed an undefeated 45-run hit on 28 balls. He also broke four fours and two sixes.

Bihu is a traditional folk dance of Assam and is usually performed during the Bihu festival. It is usually performed in a group, consisting of female and male dances, showing quick steps and rapid hand movements.

Following the victory, RR is currently sixth in the league table after seven matches. They have won three games and lost two. Meanwhile, SRH is fifth after seven games. They have recorded three wins and four losses.

In their next match, Steve Smith’s team will face Delhi Capitals on October 14. SRH will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on September 13.
