River Stream Found Under Ram Mandir Foundation Makes Model ‘Unworkable’, Trust Asks IIT For Help

The Ram temple trust in Ayodhya has asked the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) to suggest better models for the temple’s base, as a stream from the Sarayu River has been found below it, sources said Tuesday. The temple construction committee, chaired by former Prime Minister Nripendra Misra’s chief secretary, held deliberations on the matter here on Tuesday, they said. During deliberations, he realized that the existing model for the temple foundations was not feasible as a stream from the Sarayu River flows underneath the temple, a source said.

Sources from the ‘Shri Ram Janambhoomi Teertha Kshetra’ trust said IITs have been asked to suggest better models for a solid foundation for the temple. The Ram temple is scheduled for completion in 2023. The temple trust building committee has been deliberating on two options: using vibrating stone columns to support rafts that stones can be placed on, and the other is to improve the quality and ground grip by adding an engineering mix, they added.
