Rio Ferdinand believed that Manchester United had lost the 2008 Champions League final to Chelsea when John Terry came forward to receive the penalty for winning the match.
After the two teams failed to separate in both normal time and overtime, Cristiano Ronaldo’s lost penalty in the shooting gave Terry a chance to win the Champions League first title for the Blues.
The Blues defender slipped while running and his attack hit the post to level the shooting, before Edwin van der Sar saved Nicolas Anelka’s shot to give United the precious victory.

Ferdinand felt John Terry was going to score the winning penalty, but the Chelsea man slipped.
Speaking to BT Sport about his emotions when Terry was lining up his penalty, Ferdinand said: “I thought he should have come in. I have seen John take penalties earlier in training for England for many years and never missed.”
‘I thought’ that’s it ‘. So I was doubly surprised to see him lose it. I’m probably thankful for the rain at night.
Ferdinand also said he was relieved that the penalty shootout was won with Anelka’s foul, as he was next in line to penalize.
The trained man from the United States revealed that he desperately did not want to kick due to the pressure and nerves running through his body.

When Anelka was applying his penalty, he was thinking, “If he scores this penalty, I’m next. So please, Edwin, save me from the terror of applying a penalty at this level.” I did not want it.
The thrilling victory in Moscow was United’s second final win in the Champions League, with the first in 1999 through a comeback victory over Bayern Munich.
However, United were defeated 2-0 by Barcelona in the following season’s Champions League final, before facing yet another loss to Pep Guardiola’s team on the same stage in 2011.
Meanwhile, Chelsea had to wait until 2012 to finally win their first Champions League title, thanks to a penalty win over Bayern Munich at the Allianz Arena.
Ferdinand was grateful that Edwin van der Sar saved Nicolas Anelka’s penalty to win the final.
Ferdinand was next on the line to penalize after Anelka’s foul, and he didn’t want to take it.
