Actress Richa Chadha has filed a defamation lawsuit against an actor, a news channel and Kamaal R Khan with the Bombay High Court for alleged defamatory statements against her. She has also requested Rs 1.1 crore as damages from them. In September, the actor accused filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual assault and mentioned Richa’s name in interviews, while speaking about the alleged incident.
Richa has applied for a court order to prevent her and other unknown individuals from making defamatory statements in the future. Additionally, Richa has also sought the removal of such videos and tweets, in addition to demanding an apology on Twitter and other websites.
According to a report by the Mumbai Mirror, Richa filed the petition through her advocate Saveena Bedi Sachar. The petition said the defamatory statements had continued despite her sending a legal notice to the actor.
In September, the actor had accused the filmmaker Anurag Kashyap of sexual misconduct in an interview with a news channel. In that context, he mentioned Richa’s names along with two other actors, claiming that Anurag told him they did her sexual favors.
Two days after the interview, Richa had issued a statement, through her lawyer, condemning the act of “falsely” dragging Richa’s name into controversy. She had said: “Our client ‘Ms.. Richa Chadha ‘, condemns the fact that her name is dragged unnecessarily and falsely in a derogatory way to controversies and complaints recently made by third parties. Although our client believes that genuinely aggrieved women must obtain justice at all costs, there is legislation that aims to ensure that women have an equal position in their workplace and to ensure that they have a friendly workplace where their dignity and self-esteem. protected.”
