The judicial custody of actor Rhea Chakraborty, who was detained on September 8 by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in the angle of drug abuse linked to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput, has been extended until October 6. by a special NDPS court.
The actor and girlfriend of the late actor Sushant was brought before Special Judge GB Gurao who extended his judicial custody, Special Prosecutor Atul Sarpande said.
Other defendants arrested in the case will be presented in court on Wednesday, he said.
Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty have filed bail requests in the NDPS case with the Bombay High Court. It will be held for a hearing on September 23. Details of the requests will be shared after the hearing, said Satish Maneshinde, a lawyer for the brothers.
So far, the NCB has arrested more than 12 people in connection with the investigation into the angle of drugs in the case of the actor’s death.
Chakraborty had previously filed a complaint with the Mumbai Police requesting that a First Information Report (FIR) be recorded against Sushant Singh Rajput’s sister Priyanka Singh, Dr. Tarun Kumar from RML Hospital, Delhi and others under IPC, Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act and the Telemedicine Practice Guidelines.
In his complaint to the Chief Inspector of Police at Bandra Police Station, Chakraborty claimed that Priyanka Singh had sent Rajput a prescription from Dr. Tarun Kumar and that “he appears to have prescribed Sushant drugs controlled by the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act of 1985 without consultation as provided by law “.
The CBI filed an FIR against Chakraborty and others in connection with the actor’s death. The Compliance Directorate registered an Enforcement Case Information Report on July 31 in the case of the deceased actor’s death after Rajput’s father, KK Singh, filed an FIR against Rhea Chakraborty in Bihar on July 28.
Meanwhile, NCB summoned actor Deepika Padukone’s manager, Karishma Prakash, and the executive director of a talent management agency, Dhurv Chitgopekar, regarding their investigation into the alleged link between Bollywood and drugs, an official said. Tuesday, according to the PTI news agency.
Both will be questioned by the NCB on Tuesday afternoon, he said.
Chitgopekar is the executive director of the KWAN talent management agency and Karishma Prakash works at the agency, the official said.
During the NCB investigation into the drugs angle in the death case of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, a broader drug nexus emerged in Bollywood.
Rajput talent manager Jaya Saha was questioned by the NCB on Monday.
During its questioning, the NCB obtained information on many people who allegedly played an active role in the Bollywood-drug nexus, the official said.
Rajput (34) was found hanging at his home in the Bandra area here on June 14.
