On Tuesday, when actress Rhea Chakraborty reached her NCB audience, she came to the attention of the media for several reasons: her alleged role in the death of the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput and for alleged drug possession.
Another thing that stood out was his shirt.
His T-shirt, which read “Roses are red, violets are blue, we are going to crush the patriarchy, you and me,” seemed to attract attention on social media.
Searches for the meaning of patriarchy instantly spiked on Google along with searches for Rhea Chakraborty. The searches came from across the country, including states such as Goa, Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, as well as Delhi and Chandigarh.

Although the shirt itself is a statement, the shirt is part of a campaign by popular online clothing and accessories company, The Souled Store.
“The Souled Store, in collaboration with GiveHer5, is ready to change this. To raise awareness of the problem and raise funds in an innovative and attractive way, we decided to launch a limited edition product range,” says the officer. The Souled Store’s campaign page, called ‘Roses are Red’.
He also shared how “1 shirt sold = 1 girl’s annual sanitary pad requirement!”
Give Her 5, the NGO that collaborated with The Souled Store, is a social initiative that provides safe health solutions to women in rural areas of India. They distribute Saafkins (reusable sanitary napkins), organize informational workshops and conduct critical research to ensure that women have equal opportunities to attend school and work, closing the educational and income gaps caused by the poverty of the period.
The T-shirt campaign at The Souled Store featured actors such as Rahul Bose, Dia Mirza, and prominent social media influencers such as Miss Malini, Tanmay Bhat, and Ananya Johar.
Chakraborty, who became the center of a whirlwind of scrutiny after a lengthy trial with the media, has fueled a debate once again about patriarchy and how the media treat women who are in the lens rather than the mens. A recent video of the actress being chased by journalists as she left the NCB office went viral, causing widespread outrage at the way Chakraborty was being harassed.
The fact that Chakraborty chose T-Shirt over ‘patriarchy’ after viral images of her looking helpless and harassed amidst a sea of microphones being pushed by male journalists was not a “bold” move as some might call it. It was a message that sexism cannot be justified, no matter who a woman is and what she did (or didn’t do).
Chakraborty is currently in the custody of OCN officials.
