The bail hearing of actor Rhea Chakraborty, arrested on drug charges linked to the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput, was postponed until Friday. Arguments at the hearing concluded Thursday and the warrant for all defendants arrested in the case will likely be released tomorrow.
Chakraborty, 28, was arrested Monday on charges of buying drugs for her boyfriend, Bollywood star Sushant Singh Rajput, who was found dead in her Mumbai apartment in June. Local police had branded him a death by suicide, but his family blamed Ms Chakraborty, claiming that she had been deceiving and financially harassing him.
She is at the center of investigations launched by three agencies – the CBI, the Enforcement Directorate and the Office of Narcotics Control – in cases related to the death of Rajputs.
Chakraborty, who faces up to 10 years in prison on the drug charge, said today in her request for bail that she was forced to make self-incriminating confessions, which she recants.
The actress also said that her life is in danger in judicial custody because she received rape and death threats and that three investigations have “seriously affected her mental health and well-being.”
“During her custody, the plaintiff was forced to make self-incriminating confessions. In her September 8 application, the plaintiff has formally retracted all of these incriminating confessions,” Chakraborty said in her guilty plea to court.
She also said that “she has not committed any crime and has been falsely implicated in the case.”
