Rhea Chakraborty, who was released on bail in a drug case, was released from Mumbai prison

Actor Rhea Chakraborty, who was released on bail by the Bombay High Court, was released from Byculla Prison in Mumbai on Wednesday. The court granted him bail the same day in a drug case in connection with the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, but with strict conditions: appearing before the Mumbai police for 10 days and before the NCB once a month for the next six months.

The court also ordered Chakraborty to post a personal bond of Rs 1 lakh and not to tamper with evidence while on bail.

The high court also granted bail to Rajput aides Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda. However, the request of Rhea’s brother, Showik Chakraborty, who is also a defendant in the case being investigated by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), was rejected.

All of these defendants were arrested by the NCB last month.

The court said that Rhea Chakraborty cannot be said to have financed or harbored the illicit drug trade as the central agency alleges.

The court also noted that she had no criminal record and was unlikely to affect the investigation or alter the evidence while she was out on bail.

The NCB has charged Rhea under the strict Section 27-A of the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPS) which refers to the crime of financing and harboring illegal drug trafficking.

Rajput, 34, was found dead in his apartment in the Bandra area of Mumbai on June 14 this year.
