Mumbai:
Actress Rhea Chakraborty was taken to Mumbai Byculla Jail this morning, a day after she was arrested on drug charges related to the Sushant Singh Rajput case. She was sent to jail for 14 days during a video hearing by a magistrate who rejected her bail last night.
The 28-year-old is expected to apply for a court session to get bail today. He spent the night at the Office of Narcotics Control office last night.
Byculla Jail is the only prison for female inmates in Mumbai and currently has high profile inmates, including Sheena Bora’s murder defendant Indrani Mukerjea.
Rhea Chakraborty has been accused of organizing drugs for her boyfriend Sushant Singh Rajput, a Bollywood star whose shocked death on June 14 is under investigation by the IWC. There is no mention in court documents that she used drugs.
She faces charges that could lead to up to 10 years in jail.
Rhea Chakraborty and her brother Showik Chakraborty are accused of arranging drugs with the help of Sushant Singh Rajput employees Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant, who were allegedly in contact with drug traffickers.
The Office of Narcotics Control arrested Rhea Chakraborty after three days of questioning and said in her court documents that she was “an active member of the drug syndicate related to drug supplies” and was aware of “all deliveries and payments” .
“It is also clear from the statement that Rhea Chakraborty used to purchase drugs for Sushant Singh Rajputs for consumption purposes,” the anti-drug agency said. Samuel Miranda and Dipesh Sawant told investigators that they used to purchase and receive drugs “for the consumption of Sushant Singh Rajput” and that both the actor and Rhea Chakraborty would pay.
He used to “manage the finances for the procurement of medicines together with Sushant Singh Rajput,” the document read.
The agency also said that drug deliveries would be received by Sushant Singh Rajput’s aides, and sometimes the payment and choice of drugs were confirmed by Rhea Chakraborty.
While mainstream Bollywood has been largely silent, several prominent members of the film fraternity have voiced their support for Rhea Chakraborty on social media, against a large section that has targeted her over the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. .
