Bollywood writer Kanika Dhillon has joined the voices demanding the release from prison of actress Rhea Chakraborty. Rhea has been behind bars since 9 September, when she was arrested on drug-related charges linked to the death of Sushant Singh Rajput. Kanika took to Twitter to find out why Rhea was being denied bail. Rhea’s custody will end on Tuesday.
She tweeted: “While pondering conspiracy theories, a young woman is still in jail #rheachakroborty @ Tweet2Rhea CBI has clearly stated that there is no foul play … how long under what charges can she stay in jail? ?? @NCWIndia, can someone give some answers please? ”
It should be remembered that on Monday the actor Swara Bhasker tweeted about a similar lawsuit. She had tweeted Monday, in support of the leader of Congress in Lok Sabha, who had demanded Rhea’s release. She had written, “Well done sir!” and applause emojis with the hashtag “Release Rhea Chakraborty” were added.
However, the CBI has yet to render its verdict in the case and the investigation is still continuing. A few days earlier, the central agency had said it is investigating all angles in Sushant’s death case.
The AIIMS panel chief coroner, Dr. Sudhir Gupta, has ruled out murder in Sushant’s death, but AIIMS has declined to comment on this controversy. “The Medical Board has submitted the report directly to the Central Bureau of Investigation as required. As it is a legal matter, any input on the report presented by the Medical Board should be obtained from the CBI ”, he said.
In September this year, Rhea had been arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on the charge of acquiring prohibited drugs for her boyfriend and the late actor Sushant Singh Rajput. She has been incarcerated in Mumbai Byculla Jail and has been denied bail.
Sushant died at his home in Mumbai on June 14. The late actor’s family, at the end of July, had filed a FIR in Patna, accusing Rea of complicity in suicide, diverting his funds and keeping him away from his family. Rhea has denied all charges.

In three separate cases, the CBI, NCB and the Compliance Authority had been investigating the case. The latter two had been investigating a drug and financial wrongdoing angle in the death case.
Sushant’s supporters had long argued that there was a murder angle to the case. Last week, an AIIMS panel of forensic doctors had clearly stated that Sushant’s death was a case of suicide, not murder.
