Actress Rhea Chakraborty has been jailed without a bed or ceiling fan, reports NDTV. His cell in the Byculla jail is next to the one occupied by Indrani Mukerjea, accused of murdering her daughter, Sheena Bora.
Sources told the news channel that Rhea was put in a single cell for “security reasons.” There are concerns that she may be under threat, as the main defendant in the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput. Rhea has been accused by Sushant’s father of being an accessory to the actor’s suicide and of embezzling her funds. She has denied the allegations.
Rhea and five other people, including her brother Showik, were arrested earlier this week on drug-related charges after the Office of Narcotics Control found sufficient evidence linking her to a ‘drug union’. Rhea has been accused of purchasing drugs for Sushant.
According to the report, Rhea has been given a ‘chatai (mat)’ to sleep on, but has no pillow or bed. If the court allows it, a table fan will be provided. Her cell is guarded by two guards 24 hours a day, in three shifts.
Rhea’s attorney, Satish Maneshinde, said they would decide the further course of action after reading the court order. “Once we obtain a copy of the order approved by the NDPS special court, we will decide next week on the further course of action and on how to approach the Bombay High Court,” he said, according to PTI. In her release on bail, Rhea had claimed that she was falsely involved in the case.

The NCB began its investigation after the Directorate of Enforcement (ED), which was investigating the money laundering charges related to the case, shared conversations recovered from Rhea’s mobile phone, hinting at the use of prohibited drugs. Sushant was found dead at her residence in the suburbs of Bandra on June 14. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is separately investigating a case against Rhea and others for allegedly instigating the 34-year-old actor’s suicide.
