On Wednesday, the Mumbai High Court granted bail to actress Rhea Chakraborty, arrested on drug-related charges in the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, and ordered her to post a personal bond of 1 lakh rupees.
A bench under Judge Sarang Kotwal also granted bail to Rajput aides Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda, but rejected the release on bail of Rhea Chakraborty’s brother Showik Chakraborty, who is also a defendant in the case.
The photographer clicked on her to get out of jail. Police have warned the media not to pursue Rea and her vehicle.
DCP Sangramsinh Nishandar said: “I would like to clarify that anyone who is chasing / obstructing the vehicle of any other person is liable to be booked under the relevant sections of the IPC / MV Law and not only the person who is pursuing but also he is instigating will be reserved accordingly. “
Rhea Chakraborty, her brother and the other defendants were arrested last month by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with their investigation into the drug angle related to the Rajput death case. The HC ordered him not to leave Mumbai without the permission of the OCN and not to manipulate the evidence while on bail.
All those who have been granted bail, including Rhea, will also need to request permission from the NCB investigating officer to leave Mumbai, the court said.
Rhea Chakraborty’s attorney, Satish Maneshinde, said they were delighted with the higher court order. “Truth and justice have prevailed and ultimately Judge Sarang V Kotwal accepted the fact and law submissions,” he said. Rhea’s arrest and custody was “totally unjustified and outside the scope of the law,” Maneshinde said.
Sushant, 34, was found dead in his apartment in the suburbs of Bandra on June 14 this year. After extensive hearings last week, the HC closed all arguments and reserved its verdict on the allegations.
