Mumbai:
One day after actor Rhea Chakraborty accused Sushant Singh Rajput’s sisters of making a “bogus prescription” to allow her access to anxiety medications that cannot be legally prescribed on WhatsApp, the Mumbai police have recorded a case of complicity in suicide against two of the Rajput sisters and others.
The case has been transferred to the CBI for further investigation in accordance with Supreme Court orders, Mumbai police said.
A crime was recorded against Rajput sisters, Priyanka Singh and Meetu Singh, Dr. Tarun Kumar from Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Delhi and others, an official said.
“Rhea Chakraborty has put criminal law in motion by filing her complaint with the Bandra Police Station. The cocktail of illegally administered drugs and medications may have led to the suicide of SSR on June 14, 2020. Her sisters must answer to the investigators and before God, “Ms. Chakraborty’s attorney, Satish Maneshinde, said today.
Rhea Chakraborty’s complaint alleged that the counterfeit prescription showed Sushant Singh Rajput in a Delhi Outpatient Department when she was actually in Mumbai.
“(Sushant Singh Rajput) died just five days after obtaining the prescription for illegally prescribed psychotropic substances,” Rhea Chakraborty, Rajput’s girlfriend, said in her complaint Monday.
“It is imperative that the actions of Priyanka Singh, Dr. Tarun Kumar and others are investigated and that it is determined how they came to provide the deceased with such a false and illegal prescription,” he said.
The complaint is based on WhatsApp text messages between the actor and his sister from June 8, six days before he was found dead in his Mumbai apartment.
From the chat, it appears that Priyanka Singh asked Sushant Singh Rajput to take Librium for a week, Nexito every day, and Lonazep for “whenever there is an anxiety attack.”
All three are prescribed for depression and anxiety. Priyanka Singh also seems to tell her brother that she can help him connect with “the best doctor in Mumbai, all confidential.”
A prescription that he told his brother on WhatsApp appeared “counterfeit and manufactured” and the drugs cannot be prescribed electronically, Rhea Chakraborty alleged.
Rhea Chakraborty, who left Sushant Singh Rajput’s apartment the same day, claims the actor showed her the messages. She says she tried to dissuade him from taking medicines not prescribed by his doctors, but Sushant Singh Rajput “insisted” on taking only the medicines “prescribed by his sister”.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s family lawyer, Vikas Singh, refuted Ms Chakraborty’s accusation by saying that “there was no crime”. He said the complaint was his attempt to keep Mumbai police jurisdiction alive in the case after the Supreme Court asked the IWC to take over the entire investigation.
Ms. Chakraborty appeared before the Office of Narcotics Control for the third day in a row as part of an investigation into an alleged angle of drug abuse in the death case of Sushant Singh Rajput.
