Kangana Ranaut should do the entire film industry a big favor and reveal the “big names” of those he said he knows are part of the Bollywood drug mafia, actor Urmila Matondkar said Wednesday. She said that ever since Kangana Ranaut made these claims, the whole country is waiting for those names.
“Where are the names? I’d like Kangana to go ahead and do us all a huge favor by giving those names and calling those people. Let’s say it all. I’ll be the first to say thumbs up girl,” Urmila said Matondkar.
She was speaking with India Today TV consulting editor Rajdeep Sardesai for an exclusive interview about the allegations Kangana Ranaut has leveled against the film industry.
Urmila said Kangana should get out of all these things “once and for all, rather than just go on and on and on,” adding that her comments now risk sounding like “constant rage and despotication.”
“You have to decide if you want to constantly play the victim card without stopping, that is, the main victim, the victim, the victim,” Urmila said.
On Kangana Ranaut’s accusations about rampant drug abuse in the film industry, Urmila Matondkar said that the Indian drug scene in general is very large and, unfortunately, they are apparently very easily available in the country. “But to say that the entire movie industry is about the drug mafia is not just an exaggeration, I don’t even know what to call it.”
Urmila said last year that Prime Minister Narendra Modi invited the film industry to spread and carry forward Mahatma Gandhi’s message. “Do you think the honorable prime minister would have sought the support of an industry that has drug addicts?” she asked.
Speaking about Kangana Ranaut’s comments on Mumbai and his comparison to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK), Urmila Matondkar said: “Everything you have today – the name, the fame and the money – is all thanks to Mumbai and the industry of the cinema. Why haven’t you talked about these things in the last few years and are you talking about all this only in the last few months? The moment seems funny. Everything seems to go a little crazy, “he said.
Urmila said that while she considers Kangana Ranaut to be a “lovely actress” who has made a mark for herself and done a beautiful job, one wonders “how come you have problems with everyone in an industry where you have worked for more than 10 years? “
He said nepotism was prevalent in the film industry even in 1991, when he made his debut. “We have all been through our struggles. I myself come from an extremely middle class from Maharashtran. I have suffered from nepotism. I also fought these battles and overcame them as well.”
Urmila said that he does not deny that there could be some people in the film industry who could be using drugs, but said that is true for any other sector.
“Those people should be criticized and acted against. I feel that there are extremely hard-working people in the film industry. When it comes to the film industry, let’s understand loud and clear that it is not just the few stars that it talks about. You are attacking an industry where there are thousands of people earning their bread and butter and making a name for themselves. “
