Coronavirus LIVE updates: The women, who returned from the UK to Delhi and then arrived in Andhra Pradesh on a special train after escaping from an isolation facility, tested positive for the UK strain of coronavirus, said Katamneni Bhaskar, Commissioner State Health and Family Welfare Department. Other states have stepped up testing as well, while Britain’s passengers are particularly under scan. PGIMER Chandigarh Director Jagat Ram said they sent 80 random patient samples to the National Institute of Virology in Pune. Tripura Minister Ratanlal Nath told reporters that a UK state resident had tested positive and his sample was sent to Pune to check for a new strain.
Meanwhile, in Delhi, two more contacts of people who were found infected with Covid-19 after returning from the UK tested positive for the disease, officials said Tuesday. With this, the total number of infected people, including those who returned from the UK and their contacts, rose to 33, a Delhi government official said.
