Amid a record rise in daily coronavirus cases in India, the Union Ministry of Health has urged all Union states and territories to mandatorily retest all negative symptomatic rapid antigen test coronavirus cases through the RT-PCR test. The notice comes as India today posted a single-day record peak of nearly 1 lakh of infections.
“The Ministry of Health urges the States / UT to compulsorily retest all symptomatic negative cases of rapid antigen tests through RT-PCR,” tweeted the Union Ministry of Health.
In this regard, the Union Ministry of Health and the ICMR have jointly written to all States / UT and urged them to ensure that all symptomatic negative cases of RAT are compulsorily retested by RT-PCR test. This is necessary to ensure that such symptomatic negative cases do not go unproven and do not spread the disease among your contacts. This will also ensure the early detection and isolation / hospitalization of such false negatives.
It has also been reiterated in the joint letter that while RAT is used to increase access and availability of testing in the field, RT-PCR remains the gold standard of COVID testing.
Meanwhile, India today recorded a single-day record peak of 95,735 infections and 1,172 deaths, bringing India’s number of COVID-19 cases to more than 44 lakh and the death toll to 75,062, while the Recoveries rose to 34.71,783 on Thursday, according to the Union Health Ministry.
The total of cases amounted to 44,65,863, showed the ministry data updated at 8 am. The death rate dropped to 1.68 percent, while the recovery rate was 77.74 percent. There are 9,19,018 active cases in the country that comprise 20.58 percent of the total cases, according to the data.
