Results of the second ICMR sero survey: Here are the key findings | India News

NEW DELHI: It was estimated that one in 15 people over the age of 10 would be exposed to Covid-19 by August 2020, according to the second ICMR national serum survey report released Tuesday.
The survey showed that a sizeable population remains vulnerable and susceptible to coronavirus infection.
Here are the key findings from the sero survey:
* Urban slums and urban areas that are not slums had a higher prevalence of SARS-CoV-2 infection than rural areas of the country.
* Of the 29,082 people surveyed from August 17 to September 22, 6.6 percent showed evidence of past exposure to Covid-19.
* The lower proportion of infection cases in August compared to May reflects a substantial increase in testing and detection.
* 7.1 percent of the adult population showed evidence of past exposure to Covid-19.
* In light of upcoming holidays, winter season, and mass gatherings, states must implement inventive containment strategies.
* The survey was conducted in the same 700 villages / districts (in urban areas) of 70 districts in 21 states covered during the first survey.
* Since a large proportion of the population is still susceptible, prevention fatigue should be avoided and the 5T strategy (Test, Trace, Trace, Treatment, Technology) should be followed
