Request my report on law and order, not DGP or CS: Amarinder to the Governor of Punjab

Days after Governor Singh Badnore’s Vice President said he would summon Punjab’s chief secretary and DGP over the damage to mobile towers in the state, Chief Minister Amarinder Singh said Saturday that the governor should have addressed the matter with him since he is the custodian of the Home portfolio.

“While the BJP’s propaganda about the collapse of law and order in the state was nothing more than a tactic to divert attention from the issue of farm laws and the resulting agitation of farmers, if the governor nonetheless had any concerns about the situation, should I have addressed the matter directly with him (Amarinder) as custodian of the Housing Portfolio, ”the CM said in a statement.

Calling as unfortunate the fact that the governor had bowed to the antics of the BJP, the CM observed that it had taken the former only one day to react to the complaint of the BJP state leaders about the alleged collapse of law and order in Punjab.

Amarinder criticized the BJP state leadership for “adding fuel to the fire, with their irresponsible statements, in the already charged atmosphere unleashed by the draconian agricultural laws.” He called it a vicious game plan by the party to undermine the peaceful agitation of farmers by calling some minor incidents of damage to some mobile towers as a public order issue.
