Reopening Universities: How UGC and State Governments Plan to Reopen Campuses

After the University Scholarship Commission (UGC) issued a new academic calendar according to which the session for freshmen in colleges and universities would begin from November 1, the Haryana government has allowed its colleges and universities to open from September 26 as a test. In a communication to all colleges and universities, the state department of higher education has ordered them to complete all security protocols related to Covid-19 and to communicate it before Friday.

Schools partially reopened in some states across the country on September 21.

Here’s what we know so far about the reopening of the universities.

* Other than Haryana, no state has yet declared a new date for the reopening of colleges and universities. Assam reopened its schools and universities on September 21.

* The UGC had previously mandated that all college and university senior exams must be taken by September 30. As the respective state governments are looking for a way to take the exams in September, the West Bengal government urged the UGC to give it more time. . In West Bengal, senior exams will be held in October and results will be released at the end of October so that new sessions can start from November.

* The last date to complete the college admissions process is October 31st. The last date to fill all vacancies is November 30, so time is being kept for Class 12 compartment test results. The admissions process at many colleges is already underway.

* If state governments are not ready to reopen college campuses, classes will begin online, UGC said.

* There will be no summer or winter break, not just for this academic session. Since the delay will also affect the next session, there will be no breaks in two academic sessions.

* Schools in Bihar will reopen from September 28.
