The production-spec Renault Kiger is expected to go on sale in early 2021 and will be supported by the CMF-A + platform.
With the launch of the Nissan Magnite just around the corner, Renault India has taken its first step in unveiling a compact SUV on its own, as the official teaser video has just come out. The French manufacturer previously said that if it weren’t for the health crisis and the resulting disruption to the supply chain network, the brand would have already brought an SUV under four meters.
As the old saying goes, it’s better late than never, and as a forerunner, Renault will introduce the concept version of the five-seater before entering the production model in showrooms early next year. The company has stated that it is ready for “new adventures” and that the “sporty new Renault Showcar” will guide you to your favorite playground in the city or outdoors.
What is commonly referred to as Kiger could turn out to be the production name of the compact SUV that will compete against Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, recently launched Kia Sonet and Toyota Urban Cruiser, Tata Nexon, Mahindra XUV300 and Honda WR-V. The Kiger has a sporty appeal like the Magnite and the teaser indicates the presence of various styling elements.

Features a dynamic rear with sculpted tailgate, dual bubble spoiler, 3D LED taillights, slim boomerang-shaped LED headlights with unique green flashing lights, blackened pillars, rearview mirrors and roof that reveal a coupe silhouette, bulging proportions courtesy of flowing body panels and character lines, sloped rear windshield, and gleaming flush door handles.
We expect the ‘Renault Showcar’ showing a preview of the compact SUV to be revealed in the coming weeks. The road Kiger will have a lot in common with the Nissan Magnite, as the CMF-A + platform already used in the Renault Triber helps to reduce overall costs.
Like the Magnite, the Kiger will also be aggressively priced in the price range between Rs. 5.75 lakh and Rs. 9.50 lakh (ex-showroom). In terms of performance, a naturally aspirated 1.0-liter gasoline and a 1.0-liter three-cylinder turbo gasoline will be used. The higher-end variants will likely be paired with a CVT transmission.
