Renault unveils new subcompact SUV for India, expected to launch soon

Renault is ready to bring new models to India soon. Renault India released a teaser video of a new car on its social media accounts on Monday. The French automaker didn’t reveal many details about the new subcompact SUV that will likely be called the Kiger.

Renault had previously hinted at the launch of a new subcompact SUV in India early next year. The short video clip shows some expected exterior design highlights of the ‘Kiger’, including split LED headlights and an intricate spoiler arrangement.

The new SUV is likely to have a 1.0-liter 3-cylinder manual gasoline engine and a turbocharged engine. The turbo variant of the Kiger is expected to have a maximum output of 99 hp and 160 Nm of maximum torque.

The Kiger will be based on the same modular CMF-A platform used by global partner Nissan to build the Magnite and Triber. Both automakers share the platform, engines, and other technical details of their cars. In fact, the engines available in the Nissan Magnite SUV are likely to become the Kiger SUV as well.

The Renault Kiger SUV will take on rivals such as the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Kia Sonet and Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza.
