Renault has officially named its next subcompact SUV the Kiger and is preparing it to enter the lucrative but highly contested segment that includes the Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Hyundai Venue, Mahindra XUV300, Kia’s recently launched Sonet and Urban. Toyota Cruiser and the upcoming Nissan Magnite. The subcompact SUV segment in India has grown by leaps and bounds in recent times with multiple options for prospective buyers and it is this rapidly expanding surge that Renault Kiger is considering taking advantage of.
Renault currently offers Kwid, Triber and Duster in the Indian market with the first two products enjoying decent levels of success in their respective segments. However, it is the Kiger that will have the highest weight of expectations due to the segment in which it will compete once launched. The version of the showcar has been officially revealed and the automaker says the final production version will be 80% similar to this one. It has also been confirmed that Kiger will get a completely new turbo gasoline engine and promises a spacious cabin with a large cargo area.

It is in its style that Kiger hopes to make the biggest mark and the showcar version reveals two levels of full LED headlights, neon indicator light, C-shaped tai lights, 210mm ground clearance, 19-inch wheels, roof front and rear rails and skid plates.

Kiger is based on the CMFA + platform that also supports the Triber.
Expect Renault to go the extra mile to load up Kiger with features because this is an area of great interest to buyers in this segment. A large infotainment screen with support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto is a given, while the premium sound system, wireless phone charging, steering-mounted controls, and ambient lighting can also come in.
It is no wonder then that Renault is pinning high hopes for its next high-priced product with the Kiger launch in India before heading to other markets. “We are delighted to announce that the global launch of Renault KIGER will take place in India, after which it will be launched in other markets around the world. After KWID and TRIBER, Renault KIGER is the third Groupe Renault global car to be launched. in India first, followed by other markets, “reported Venkatram Mamillapalle, Managing Director and Managing Director of Renault India Operations. “Renault Kiger will exemplify disruptive innovation. It will launch in segment B, which represents more than 50% of total industry sales, allowing us to increase our presence across the country.”
Renault has also been simultaneously working on expanding its sales and after-sales network in the country. The company recently reported that it now has around 415 sales and more than 475 service contact points here. As such, this could also be a shot in the arm for the Kiger if it seeks to challenge Brezza and Venue’s dominance in the country.
Renault hasn’t officially confirmed a launch date for Kiger, but the car is expected to be able to be driven in early 2021 and at a price that could be attractive.
