Renault India has finally removed the wraps from its subcompact SUV, which was previously called the ‘HBC’ concept. It will be called Renault Kiger at launch. The new Renault Kiger concept is a preview of Renault’s upcoming subcompact SUV that will go on sale in 2021 and will be built on the same platform as the Triber MPV. The Kiger will make its world debut in India and will also be exported abroad. Renault says it will also introduce a completely new global engine in the SUV under 4 meters.

The new Renault Kiger show car has been designed and developed by corporate design teams in France and India. The concept shows a modern, open-air vibe with the additional cladding, pronounced wheel arches and robust bumpers. The split lighting up front is reminiscent of the Kwid, but the Kiger has a wider LED band running across the front of the car, with the three-point LED headlights positioned on the bumper.
You also get items like the semi-floating roof, a roof-integrated spoiler flag, a sloped rear window, and the tapered mirrors that have been designed like airplane wings. At the rear, the extra muscle in the C-pillar adds to the sporty appeal and is integrated into the tailgate for eye-catching lines and folds. The C-shaped LED taillights have a distinctive pattern. The concept version rides on 19-inch alloy wheels with heavily grooved tires, while the ground clearance is 210mm. Renault says that nearly 80 percent of Kiger’s production specs will be identical to the concept car, and that’s something worth waiting for.

No word on pricing yet, but the 2021 Renault Kiger could see a tag price of just under ₹ 5.5 lakh (ex-showroom) for the base variants. It will be manufactured locally at the Renault-Nissan alliance plant in Oragadam, Tamil Nadu and we expect competitive pricing on the SUV. The Kiger will seek to establish itself in the highly competitive subcompact SUV space, which boasts such models as the Nissan Magnite, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and others.
