Dissidents within Congress do not speak out on national issues like Rahul Gandhi, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said, questioning what prevents these leaders from expressing their views within the party forum.
“Who has stopped Kapil Sibal, Ghulam Nabi Azad from asking questions? Who has stopped any leader from asking questions. These leaders do not speak on national issues. But speak publicly about party affairs, ”Bhupesh Baghel said at the Hindustan Times Leadership Summit.

Kapil Sibal, who was one of the 23 leaders who wrote to the president of Congress, in a recent interview had emphasized the need for introspection in the party. The party is in decline, the former union minister said, in the wake of the massive beating of Congress in the recent Bihar assembly elections. Ghulam Nabi Azad, another dissident, blamed the fall of Congress in the elections on the 5-star culture within the party.

“Ghluam Nabi Azad, Kapil Sibal are great leaders, they have been ministers … They have seen it all, they have names, fame thanks to the party. They are the same people who used to tell us to air our differences within the party forum … They should not have made their comments public. I can’t say anything against them as they are far superior, but what they told us is applicable to them as well, ”said CM Baghel.
When told that the leaders themselves had complained that there was no forum to discuss their problems, Baghel said: “The Adhyakshs (party chairmen) cannot meet with everyone. We also used to meet with these same leaders to get closer to the president. They know the way and still ask how ”.
The Chhattisgarh CM once again defended Rahul Gandhi, who resigned after the poor performance of Congress in the 2019 Lok Sabha elections, as head of Congress.
“The Karyakartas love Rahul Gandhi. There is great acceptance for him. He has been on a tour of the country, understands the issues and says things with conviction, be it about LAC, lockdown, GST or coronavirus. He is the first to speak, ”said CM Baghel.
