The Maharashtra government said on Saturday that all religious sites in the state will be reopened for devotees starting Nov. 16 and that wearing the mask will be mandatory.
“All religious places in the state to reopen for devotees starting Monday, November 16. The use of the mask will be mandatory. All Covid standards must be followed, ”the Government of Maharashtra said in a statement.
The government headed by Prime Minister Uddhav Thackeray has urged citizens to follow social distancing and Covid-19 protocols when entering religious sites.
“The decision has come at the right time when the number of patients with a crown is low. The rules will be the same for all religious sites. The use of masks, disinfectants would be mandatory. Social distancing is very important, ”Maharashtra minister Jayant Patil told reporters.
Thackeray had previously discussed with all the state’s divisional commissioners and district collectors via video conferences about reopening places of worship after the Diwali festivities are over.
In March, religious sites were closed due to the confinement imposed by the coronavirus disease pandemic (Covid-19).
Thackeray had previously said that there has been a delay in the opening of religious sites, as the state is opening in a staggered fashion to avoid the second wave.
Maharashtra recorded 4,132 new coronavirus cases on Friday, bringing the case count to 17,40,461, the state health department said.
With 127 deaths, the death toll from Covid-19 in the state reached 45,809, he added.
On the other hand, 4,543 patients recovered and were discharged during the day. The total number of recoveries thus amounted to 16.09.607.
There are 84,082 active cases in the state.
So far, 97,22,961 people have been tested. Up to 58,686 tests were conducted in the state on Friday.
The recovery rate for coronavirus cases in Maharashtra is 92.48%, while the death rate is 2.63%.
