Recent Match Report: Mumbai Indians vs Kings XI Punjab 36th Match 2020

Mumbai Indians 176 of 6 (de Kock 53, Pollard 34 *, Krunal 34, Shami 2-30) tied with Kings XI Punjab 176 x 6 (Rahul 77, Bumrah 3-24)
Kings XI won the second of two Super Overs

About three inches. That’s all that stood between the Punjab Kings XI and an outright victory over the Mumbai Indians. But they finally got there. After two Super Overs.

A seesaw game came down to the last ball. Chris Jordan put out a long-term yorker and felt the opportunity to land the two runs he needed to finish the game. But it became a giant circle, adding to the distance he needed to cover. Distance over which all this game was developed. In the end, he was about three inches tall.

Jasprit Bumrah allowed just five runs from his bowling alley to set up a seemingly easy Super-Over chase, but Mohammed Shami had other ideas. With a goal of nothing behind him, he nailed yorker after yorker after yorker, to take this raunchy match to a second Super Over; and three for the day in total. A piece of brilliance from KL Rahul kept Quinton de Kock from completing the winning streak.

Then it was Mayank Agarwal’s turn in the limelight, leaping high on the edge of the midwicket boundary, saving a definitive six to knock down the Kings XI goal 16-12 in the second Super Over. As if he had a massive FOMO, he even went off and helped chase it down (poor Trent Boult, these tiebreaks never seem to work out for him) when one of the most memorable nights of the IPL came to an end. However, no one, at least from Kings XI’s camp, is going to sleep much.
