Oppo’s spin-off Realme made a name for itself as a maker of budget smartphones in parts of Asia and Europe, but has since ventured into a slew of other categories, ranging from smart TVs to truly wireless headphones. With today’s announcement, Realme is further expanding its product line by adding 4K SLED Smart TV, which is based on its proprietary backlight technology, along with a 100W soundbar. There are also a large number of accessories, some IoT devices and headsets, following what the company teased last month.
4K SLED Smart TV
Instead of illuminating a blue backlight that then breaks down to red and green, as in the case of QLEDs, Realme says that its new 55-inch SLED TV uses red, blue, and green emitters at the initial stage. This arrangement is claimed to improve the supported color gamut, allowing the TV to achieve 108% of the NTSC standard and reducing eye strain.
The TV connects to a quad-core MediaTek chip to control each of those pixels and enable their HDR10 + capabilities. Audio is handled by two sets of full-range speakers and tweeters, all firing downward, for a total output of 24 watts. This is an Android TV unit that supports Google Assistant, has Chromecast built in, and includes apps like Netflix and Prime Video (plus a ton of local options) out of the box.
To accompany the TV’s built-in speaker system, Realme also today unveiled a 100W 2.1ch soundbar, including a 40W subwoofer. Those in India can buy the soundbar for ₹ 6,999 (~ $ 95) on Amazon.in and realme.com starting October 16. The 4K SLED Smart TV will also go on sale the same day on Flipkart for an introductory price of ₹ 39,999 (~ $ 546).
Realme 7i
While the TV topped today’s announcement, Realme also announced a new budget-oriented 7i smartphone to complement its existing 7 series. The ₹ 12,000 (~ $ 165) phone has a punch-hole HD + screen that updates to 90Hz along with a quad-camera setup on the back. The Realme 7i is powered by a Snapdragon 662 chip and has a 5,000 mAh battery. The phone supports fast charging, has a headphone jack, and supports a microSD card. It will go on sale on Flipkart starting October 16.
Headphones and other accessories
Realme also featured a bunch of other products, including an AirPods Pro-like Buds Air Pro that cost ₹ 4,499 (~ $ 60), along with Buds Wireless Pro with neckband-style ANC (both pictured above). The company also released a 360-degree smart camera, a smart plug, a 20,000mAh power bank, an electric toothbrush, and a selfie tripod.
