Realme 7 Review (Express Photo: Sneha Saha)

The great thing about a brand like Realme is that it places equal importance on its affordable flagship phones. Realme did a great job with their recently announced C series. At such a low price, the features offered by Realme C12 and C15 are comparable to mid-range devices. Similarly, the new Realme 7 series looks and feels nothing less than a flagship.

Realme brings the 7 and 7 Pro, which are successors to the Realme 6 and 6 Pro announced earlier this year. The Realme 7 starts at Rs 14,999 for the 6GB RAM and 64GB storage model. For the past seven days, I have been using the high-end Realme 7 model which includes 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage priced at Rs 16,999. If you need more storage, there is also an option for microSD card support.

With the Realme 7, the company offers not only flagship specs, but good looks as well. For this device, the company has taken into account each and every part, including the battery, screen, cameras, and hardware, and updated them compared to the predecessor Realme 6.

Realme 7 Price: Beginnings Rs 14,999

Realme 7 Specifications: MediaTek Helio G95 Processor | up to 8GB RAM | up to 128GB of storage | 64MP Quad Rear Camera | 16MP selfie camera | 6.5-inch screen | 5000mAh battery | 30W fast charging support | Realme UI based on Android 10 | side mount fingerprint sensor

So is Realme 7 one of the best smartphones available under the price of Rs 15,000? This is what I think.

What is good, not so good

Realme 7 is an attractive device and it also stands out in this crowded space due to its unique design. It looks like nothing less than a flagship device. Despite having a large 6.5-inch screen, the phone feels extremely compact and premium in the hands. The phone also doesn’t feel very heavy in the hands like the Realme C12 and C15. The total weight is fairly balanced throughout the device.

The Realme 7 offers a good viewing experience indoors as well. Inside the house, the phone screen is bright enough. I watched some videos, played games like Asphalt 9, PUBG Mobile (banned in India on Aug 2), and Temple Run on the phone and they all looked pretty good. Viewing angles were good too. However, in outdoor situations, even the 100% brightness level did not feel adequate. During my morning walk, I often had to partially cover the phone screen to avoid direct sunlight so that I could properly view emails and Twitter feed.

What surprised me is the performance of the phone. The MediaTek G95 processor that powers the Realme 7 runs smoothly and handles multitasking very well. I used the phone as my main device, which means I made calls, played games, surfed the internet and social media like Twitter, Instagram and Facebook, sent a lot of emails and WhatsApp messages. The Realme 7 never felt lagged or slowed down. I have been using the device before PUBG Mobile was banned in India and I played the game and it ran smoothly even on high graphics settings.

Realme 7 also shines in the camera department. I clicked a lot of images in different settings and in almost all lighting conditions the phone was able to capture good, detailed images. However, in low light, the phone has a bit of a difficult time capturing details. However, the Night mode helps in this case and makes low light images look sharper.

In good light, photos that were clicked with the Realme 7 show a good amount of detail and accurate colors. In portrait mode, the phone also managed to click detailed images with sharp edges and blurred background properly. Macro mode is where I think the phone could have performed better as details get lost sometimes. The ultra-wide images clicked on by the Realme turn out to be pretty decent.

One of the best things about the Realme 7 is the battery. Well, that has been the case with most Realme phones at various prices. For me, the Realme 7 lasts almost 1.5 days on a single charge. Another great thing about the device is that it comes with 30W SuperDart fast charging support that fully charges the phone in about an hour.

Should you buy Realme 7?

The Rs 15,000 price segment is a crowded space, but despite that, the Realme 7 shines and competes well with its competitors like Poco M2 Pro, Redmi 9 Pro, among others. Overall, the Realme 7 is one of the best phones to get the price it’s competing for.

The Realme 7 is an attractive smartphone that feels premium in the hands for the price. The phone handles multitasking very well, lasts for more than a day on a single charge, and is also capable of clicking good, detailed images in almost all lighting conditions. In most departments, the Realme 7 shines with only a few downsides.
