On Monday, Ravichandran Ashwin’s deal with the Yorkshire County Cricket Club’s English team was canceled by mutual consent amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
The Cricket Board of England and Wales (ECB) recently suspended all forms of professional cricket until July 1 due to the pandemic that has wreaked havoc worldwide. Ashwin, who signed for the club in January, was expected to play in most of the remaining county championship games.
It would have been the county’s third season of 33 years, having represented Worcestershire and Nottinghamshire in the past.
The club also announced the termination of contracts for its two other foreign players, South African spinner Keshav Maharaj and West Indies hitter Nicholas Pooran.
“First of all, I really appreciate the understanding of the players in this matter. We have been in regular contact with the players and their agents during this Covid pandemic. They have been extremely professional and appreciate the uncertainty that counties face today.” said Yorkshire Cricket Director Martyn Moxon.

“We look forward to seeing you at Emerald Headingley in the future.”
Maharaj had agreed to rejoin the White Rose for the opening of two Specsavers County Championship matches against Gloucestershire and Essex.
While Pooran had agreed to a second term at Emerald Headingley after agreeing to rejoin as the foreign player Vitality Blast of the Yorkshire Vikings for the 2020 campaign.
However, with the outbreak of COVID-19 forcing a cricket shutdown in the UK until May 28, it means the trio will not be able to play for the club this season.
