Ratan Tata, Chairman Emeritus of Tata Sons, arrived in Jamshedpur on Tuesday to celebrate the birth anniversary of Tata Group founder Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata. Ratan Tata took to Instagram this morning to share some glimpses of the Founder’s Day celebrations in the city named after the founder of the Tata Group. One of India’s first planned cities, Jamshedpur in Jharkhand, was selected by Jamsetji Tata as the location for his steel plant. It was in 1919 that Lord Chelmsford changed the name to Jamshedpur in his honor.
Jamsetji Tata founded the Tata Group as a private trading company in 1868. Regarded as the “father of Indian industry”, he was born in Navsari on March 3, 1839. The Tata iron and steel industry that he created is considered to be the oldest . industry in India.
On his 182nd birthday, Ratan Tata paid tribute to the founder of the Tata Group and wrote that Jamsetji Tata had inspired many with his “empathy and kindness over the years.”
“My best wishes to all the companies in the Tata group, the employees and their families on the anniversary of the birth of our founder, Mr. Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, who has inspired us with his empathy and kindness over the years.” wrote.
Ratan Tata also remembered his mentor, the late JRD Tata, when he shared an old photograph showing them together in front of a statue of Jamsetji Tata in Jamshedpur. “This celebration of Founder’s Day has special feelings and emotions for me, reminding me in many ways of my mentor, Mr. JRD Tata,” he said.
On Instagram Stories, he shared two other photos from the Founder’s Day celebrations. The photos show him paying a floral tribute to the founder of the Tata Group.
Ratan Tata and Natarajan Chandrasekaran, Chairman of the Tata Group, arrived in Jamshedpur yesterday, Times of India reports. They inaugurated the lighting at Jubilee Park yesterday and will participate in various ceremonies and events throughout the day.
This year, Founder’s Day celebrations have been scaled down in light of the coronavirus pandemic. According to Avenue Mail, this year’s theme is ‘Agile Today for a Sustainable Tomorrow’.
Last year, on the anniversary of JN Tata’s birth, Rata Tata hailed him as the group’s guiding “beacon,” one whose entrepreneurial legacy helped build the nation.
