A 15-year-old girl in the Bulandshahr district of Uttar Pradesh died from burns on Tuesday, three months after she was raped, police said. A relative and two friends of the defendant, who is in jail, were arrested after the teenager’s father alleged that they set him on fire, police added.
The defendant’s uncle and friends had been pressuring her to drop the case, Senior Police Superintendent Santosh Kumar Singh told reporters.
“The incident (of rape) took place on August 15. The defendant was arrested and is still in jail. This morning at 8 am, she arrived at the hospital with burns. She was sent to Delhi for treatment, where she died. . “he said Tuesday.
“Until 11 in the morning it was known that the girl set herself on fire. However, her family has denounced that others set her on fire … a fair investigation will be carried out. For now, three people have been arrested in the case,” added.
A video filmed at the government hospital in Bulandshahr, where the girl was taken for the first time, shows the woman saying that she set herself on fire after pressure and threats from the family of the accused of rape. However, the FIR (First Information Report) presented by the woman’s father alleges that the family of the accused of rape poured gasoline on the woman and set her on fire. Police say both angles will be investigated.
Two police officers have been suspended for alleged negligence in handling the case, he said, adding that two senior officers were also removed from active duty.
According to a complaint filed by the girl on August 15, she was raped by a man who had come to her village to tend a mango orchard.
This comes weeks after a 20-year-old Dalit woman was allegedly raped and murdered by four upper caste men in UP’s Hathras district. The incident sparked a nationwide uproar after police cremated the victim’s body in the middle of the night, allegedly without the consent of his family.
