Rape and murder in Punjab | BJP questions the silence of congressional leaders

Why are Rahul and Priyanka silent about the rape of a minor in Punjab ?, asks Nirmala Sitharaman.

On Saturday, the BJP accused Congress of employing “selective outrage” in cases of crimes against women, questioning the silence of Congressional leaders Rahul Gandhi and Priyanka Vadra on the alleged rape and murder of a six-year-old girl in Punjab.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, in a press at the BJP national headquarters in New Delhi, also attacked Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) leader Tejashwi Yadav and asked him if he had asked Gandhi about the issue while conducting a joint electoral campaign with him in the State. He also noted that the child came from the Dalit community.

Attacking Mr. Yadav, he referred to a 2008 news report to mention the “allegations of jokes and misconduct with women against the RJD brothers,” a reference to him and his older brother Tej Pratap.

“That [the Punjab incident] it may not harm the RJD because that’s the way things were when they were in power, “said Sitharaman, adding that the RJD presided over” Jungle Raj “during his rule from 1990-2005.

Attacking Congress, he said: “The pretentious Congress has not said a word. Tweet-friendly Rahul Gandhi has not tweeted about the Hoshiarpur incident. There has been no outrage. And no picnic. “

Their “picnic” mockery concerned the visit of Mr. Gandhi and Ms. Gandhi to Hathras in BJP-ruled Uttar Pradesh, following the alleged attack by a Dalit girl, who later died in a Delhi hospital.

“The Congress party should stand up and respond. Does this kind of selective outrage suit the stature of your party? Why don’t the brother-sister couple go and express horror in Hoshiarpur? Why not in Rajasthan? The selective cry of outrage that Congress wants to show when it is elsewhere but not in the states governed by it is fully exposed, ”said Sitharaman.

Stating that crimes like rape should not be politicized, he said certain political parties are selective in expressing their horror.

In a horrific incident, a six-year-old girl was allegedly raped, killed and then set on fire, and her half-burned body was found in a house in the village of Tanda in Jalalpur, police said Thursday.

The defendants, Gurpreet Singh and his grandfather Surjit Singh, have been arrested on charges of murder, rape and under other sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act (POCSO ), they said.
