Random Covid Testing at Delhi Airport Starting Today, Train and Bus Stations Below

Coronavirus: Delhi has recorded more than 6.6 lakh of coronavirus cases so far.

New Delhi:

Passengers at Delhi airport, arriving from states witnessing an increase in coronavirus, will be randomly tested starting today and “those who test positive will be placed in mandatory quarantine,” the government said. The measure will then be followed at the train and bus stations.

“The Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) will conduct random COVID-19 testing of passengers coming from states where cases are increasing,” read a statement tweeted today by Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL ).

After the collection of samples, travelers will be allowed to leave. However, “those passengers who test positive will be mandatorily quarantined at their place of stay” or in a hospital for 10 days, according to the protocols of the Ministry of Health, the DDMA had stressed last week before Holi.

Delhi’s Covid count rose to 6,60,611 total infections after 995 new infections were recorded in the past 24 hours, data from the Health Ministry showed this morning. The national capital is once again witnessing a surge in coronavirus cases amid a second emerging wave of Covid in other parts of the country. With an increase in cases, the government is applying stricter measures once again.

In the advisory issued last week, the government warned of strict action if people are found violating the protocols.

Yesterday, Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri recalled in a tweet: “Our fight against COVID continues. A notice was issued to all airports to ensure compliance with the COVID19 Protocol. People must wear face masks (covering the nose and mouth) and maintaining social distance. We are moving in the direction of punitive actions by police against non-compliant passengers (sic).
